after Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer’s “The Mindfulness Bell”
The neighbor’s yappy dog yapping.
The unhoused man yelling into the wind.
The motorcyclist revving.
Repeated endlessly
as dusk settles
into a sweltering summer night.
I just want a little pocket of quiet
and a nice cool breeze.
Now the unhoused man is screaming at the dog.
Now they’re literally barking at each other.
Life is
full of vexations
and mindfulness bells.
I just wish they weren’t attached. If this resonates, I’d love to hear from you. A comment, a share, or even just a like goes a long way. Writing into the silence is its own practice, but knowing the work lands makes it easier to keep showing up.
